Today is the last day of August Break. I have really enjoyed participating in this project. It has been very inspirational and motivating, something that I needed at this time. Thank you for visiting!

Zoo
Summer is winding down and we are preparing to go back to school/work for another year. Today was one of those perfect end of the summer days, still warm with just a hint of fall in the air. We decided it was a good day to visit the zoo.
If you knew my girl you would know that being able to see the snow leopard this close was a huge thrill, I think she shrieked when he popped-up in front of her. Usually when we go it is so hot that they are sleeping off in the shade, and are hard to spot.
A few years ago, when the snow leopard was just a baby, he ran right up to the window when she walked in (though I don't think they can see in through the window), she was convinced today that he remembered her and is why he came up to the window again, she said "maybe he could sense that it was me"

Mindful
Today was most likely our last venture to the beach this season. It was a coolish day, but we decided to go anyway. Unlike the rest of the season, it was not crowded at all. That also meant that the water was too cool for swimming.
I spent time listening to the waves, watching the water, and thinking. Being mindful of all that has happened this year. Moving away from negativity and worry. Moving towards positivity and creativity.
Watching my baby move towards being a beautiful girl with a big heart.

Argus
I recently cleaned out my closet and drawers to make room for "back to school/work" clothes. I was good and made two bags, one for our swap meet next month and one for Goodwill. Yesterday I hauled the big bag of unwanted goodness to the local Goodwill and while there I decided to go in to see what of others unwanted goodness I could find.
I always check out the camera section first. Sitting on the top shelf was a lovely Argus C3 for $9.00, in great shape I might add. I snagged it.

Mister Brain Wash
After waiting for months I was finally able to go see Exit Through the Gift Shop, last night. It was not until the middle of the film that I realized that I had taken a shot of some MBW graffiti while in Paris this past spring. After a long day of walking and ending up in the latin quarter I sat down on a stoop for a few moments, I looked over and noticed this image and thought it would make a cool photo. At the time I was aware of Banksy, but not Mister Brain Wash.
As for my thoughts on the film, I thought it was fantastic and hilarious at moments. I also think that it was exactly what it was "supposed" to be. There is a lot of speculation surrounding this film and the making of this film.
It felt to me like a totally fabricated documentary made of real events. From the very beginning I felt like I was watching a mockumentary on SCTV. My husband and I have debated sections of the movie, I have read other reviews on the internet and I am sticking bythe original thoughts I had as the movie ended; this movie did exactly what it was intended to do, get people talking.
If you get a chance to see it, do it!

Out Of Commission
I went to bed with a headache and woke up at 3:30 am with a full on migraine. It was the kind of migraine that induced vomiting, which unfortunately did nothing to relieve the pain. I have not even been able to keep medication down, until now - 4:00pm. I have been able to do nothing except put my head down and close my eyes, even the simplest of hair clips seems like a torture device.

Vague Nothingness
I received my PX70 color shade from the impossible project last week. My SX-70 is currently out of commission, so I popped a cartridge into my Sun600. The black slide that came out said "see nothing in the mirror" I decided this was a sign to do a mirror self-portrait, though I should have taken note of the "see nothing". It was a fairly early on a warm day, not the scorchers that we have been having, but still warm. The light was not overly bright, but bright enough I thought. I immediately covered the print and let it sit for quite a long while. The image I got was very very vague, even after a few days.
The two shots above are my third and fourth shots. These were taken at the graffiti hotel we visited last weekend, mentioned in a previous post. It was a fairly bright day and on the warm side. I put the photos in my pocket as soon as they came out and left them there until we were ready to go, then I transferred them into a magazine. They were in a warm car most of the afternoon. These are scans of the shots a few days later. I have an image this time, but think I will try keeping the print cooler next time. I plan to research others methods for success and then play around some more!

Go To Jail
Go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.00!
The heat has been so oppressive and thick this summer, it feels like concrete walls holding us captive inside our house.
I keep trying to find ways to keep my girl and myself entertained in our little furnace.
Today we managed to fit in cookie baking (crazy I know) and a nice long game of Monopoly before wilting in the late-afternoon heat. My sweaty mind did have a difficult time keeping track of which piece belonged to me, since all pieces had to be on the board, even though they were not being played.
The houses, by the way, belong to the 6 year old! Future tycoon? probably, she certainly does not take no for an answer.
On an extremely high note, we were able to get tickets to see The New Pornographers in October!!! I can't tell you how excited I am. I LOVE them and the new album is without a doubt my favorite album this year.
Check them out!

Studio
I spent some time in my studio today, painting with my girl. I think her pieces came out better than the one I have had in progress for months. I wish I had a direction I wanted to go with it, it keeps moving along, but doesn't seem to evolve.
Today I even tried attacking it like a child would, just going for it and seeing what would happen, it wasn't bad, but not great either. It seems that regression, in a painting sense, is harder than one might think.
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up
